We are off to a great start in Spanish 1st Grade!  Welcome to our class!

Our focus for the month of September:

Reading-Phonemic awareness and syllabication. We are learning to count syllables and sound them out. We are also focusing on basic phonics skills to help us learn how to decode words. As we read to our teacher we talk a lot about the pictures in the stories to help us learn new vocabulary words in Spanish to aid in the comprehension of what we're reading.

Writing-We are focusing on writing heavily! We meet in small groups and author/illustrate our own stories. Students are always so excited when they have completed a story and can read it to their friends. These will eventually be in our reading nook so our friends can read our stories as well.

Math-We are focusing on basic facts in addition and subtraction. Practicing these facts in the car, at the grocery store, right before bed, etc is a great idea to help add these to our memory! We'll be taking 10 minute timed quizzes to see how we're growing and much faster we're getting as well.

Social Studies-Students are participating in an All About Me unit. We're incorporating some of this into our writing as well. Talking about our houses, our bedrooms, locations of places in our homes, etc.
