Extra Credit Opportunity (3rd-5th graders)
For those students interested, extra credit is being offered for Computer Lab grades. Simply put your knowledge of Power Point to use and create a slideshow. We’ve already done an “All About Me” slideshow, so get creative and come up with a new topic for a presentation. Maximum points will be given to those students who incorporate all the techniques we learned during the first quarter (inserting photographs, clipart, text boxes, animations, etc.). You may bring your Power Point presentation to me on a flash drive or you may email it to me at starrje@tulsaschools.org. Happy Power Pointing J (DUE 12/9)

Hi Parents! My name is Jennifer Starr and I am the Instructional Technology teacher at EIS. This is my first year here at Eisenhower and I am so excited to be part of such a fabulous staff and community. This is my 13th year of teaching. I have taught 1st, 3rd and 4th grades in TPS and couldn't be happier for this new and exciting adventure in my career.
Over the course of the year your students will do a wide variety of fun and challenging activities in the computer lab. There are State and National Technology Standards that I will be following with each grade level. We will also use the computer lab to reinforce skills students are being taught in their target languages.
1st Quarter-
Prek-This energetic group is working on abcmouse.com. On this website I have created a profile for each student. I assign tasks for each of the students; a letter and number of the week, puzzles, games, stories to read, music to sing along with, activities to go along with the country they're studying, etc. They are also working on Earobics, a program designed to help with listening skills, letter and number recognition, etc.
Kinder-My fun kinder friends are working on letter and number recognition, patterns, colors, sight words, etc. About 85% of the work my kinder students do in computer lab is within their target language. They love singing songs, recognizing numbers up to 20, working with patterns, playing games all in their target language. And they LOVE to test my language knowledge and teach me what they're learning as well!
1st and 2nd graders-Our energetic and excited first and second graders are working on Type 2 Learn each day. Approximately 20 min of their day is spent working on keyboarding skills. Their keyboarding skills will be of great importance as we get closer to taking Common Core Assessments in the next few years. Our students will be a step ahead!
1st/2nd graders are also working on the standards being taught in their classroom. Websites found under "Student Resources" on the EIS website are used daily to reinforce skills being taught in their target languages. These can also be accessed from home!
3rd-5th graders-The fabulous 3rd-5th graders are working on Type 2 Learn as well. They have additional keys and formatting to work on within the program and they move at their pace through the process.
Our first technology standard we covered in 3rd-5th grade was "Demonstrate knowledge of basic operations and concepts". We used Power Point to accomplish this task. Students have done fabulous work importing pictures, adding animations, working with text boxes, adding audio, etc. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them better through this process as well!
3rd-5th graders are also reinforcing skills taught in the classroom; they are working on elapsed time, decimals, fractions, multiplication and division. There are several sites used for these skills and students maneuver through the sites from basic to more challenging at their own pace.
