Culture Boxes
The World In A Box.pptx
Created by Ashley Lewis, shows culture boxes and how they are used with prek.
Culture Boxes representing over 40 countries provide you with a wonderful hands-on learning opportunity. The boxes contain clothing, games, videos, books, toys, musical instruments and other artifacts from around the globe. You can touch, feel, and immerse yourself in elements of other cultures.
Emily Wood manages the Culture Box Program which she started in 1993 in partnership with Tulsa Global Alliance and Eisenhower International School (EIS). Boxes are housed at EIS and can be checked out by any group or organization on a two-week basis.
Teachers across the state agree that Culture Boxes promote critical thinking, as well as avenues of visual, auditory, and tactile learners. They provide teachers with an educational tool, and many boxes contain a curriculum to aid in classroom presentations.
Culture Boxes are provided to all Tulsa Public School classrooms for free. All other users are charged a $15 fee per box to help with box maintenance. Download a request form here or email Becky Litterell who is in charge of checkout.
More information about the collections may be found on the website of the Tulsa Global Alliance (Culture Box program). Last year, libraries, schools, camps, scout troops checked the boxes out serving over 6000 people.
