Welcome Back Dolphins!
It has been a really busy week for our team at Eisenhower! Teachers reported for the first time on August 20 after a very long summer. They jumped right in to team meetings, staff development, and preparing for school to start. We at Eisenhower have been focused on the transition to the distance learning model.
Did you know that students in distance learning have the flexibility to complete assignments and virtual classes on the schedule that best meets the needs of each family? While distance learning will include Zoom-based "live" classes, "live" lessons will be recorded for students to watch at a later time. We hope that every student can participate in these real-time classes, but we know that our families need flexibility based on work schedules, childcare arrangements, and the unexpected circumstances that come up in day-to-day life! Students will have the flexibility to watch recorded "live" lessons and access assignments and tasks in the evenings and on the weekends. If your child misses a "live " class during distance learning, he or she can watch it at another time or even on another day! As long as your child completes their assignments on time each week, using recorded lessons on a flexible schedule it will not affect attendance. For more information about distance learning at Tulsa Public Schools, visit www.tulsaschools.org/distancelearning. We are excited to have created and be implementing a more flexible schedule for families and students.
Next week, teachers will begin calling their new students and families to welcome them back to school and invite them to our virtual, "Back to School Night" event hosted on Thursday, August 27th. French students and families will be invited to join from 5:00-6:00 pm and Spanish students and families from 6:30-7:30pm. We have new staff members this year and want to welcome them aboard and help them feel valued. Pre-Kindergarten teachers will also begin calling parents for scheduling one on one assessments this coming week and invite Pre K parents to our Orientation meeting held on August 31st.
As we all prepare to start the school year on Thursday, August 31st, we will be having a "Bundle Pick-Up Event". We have many supplies to give you in order to support the instruction in your home. We will have a staggered schedule much like the supply distribution day in May, 2020. More specific information is coming as we are awaiting some new information on the Chrome book distributions for new students or those who did not receive them in the spring. We hope to make t his a onetime grab and go (Hold the date of Thursday, August 31st between 8:30- 4:11 as a pick up time frame.) Classes will not be in session to allow for this event.
I'm looking forward to seeing all of you on our Back to School Zoom event and welcome our new dolphins, as well as, share our vision for this coming year. I'm excited about the possibilities as we create and build a strong immersion virtual school. I expect us all to experience greatness from our student body and staff alike. Parent partnerships are more needed and valuable than ever before. May we move forward together positively impacting our student's lives and language learning experiences. United we succeed!
With hope and support,
Mrs. Connie Horner, Principal
