Karina Bliss is the 2025-2026 Eisenhower International School Teacher of the Year!
Karina joined Team Tulsa in 2018 and started teaching first grade at Eisenhower five years ago. She teaches the Spanish portion of the school's language immersion program. We asked her a few questions to learn more about her and her time in Tulsa Public Schools.
What led you to a career in education?
I first started in Texas, and I decided to do my alternative certification in bilingual education because I realized the necessity of Spanish teachers. I'm glad I did it because it opened a lot of doors for me.
What is your favorite thing about your work?
Working in an immersion school it surprised me how kids develop the new language, how they answer to me in Spanish and how they don't have any accent when they start little. It always put a smile in my face when I asked questions and they answer in Spanish.
What is one thing you are passionate about outside of teaching?
I love nature, and I love to go to national parks.
